Diane began her dance training at age three with Miss Marjorie Fink in Bethlehem, Pa. She continued her studies with the Ambler Youth Ballet, in Ambler, Pa., under the direction of Olin Kearse. During this time, she performed many roles and also studied with Pennsylvania Ballet in Philadelphia, and the American Ballet Theater in NYC. After enrolling at Denison University, in Granville, Ohio, her focus shifted to modern dance, and she studied in New York with Merce Cunningham, the Jose Limon Company, Louis Falco, and others. Diane earned a BFA in Dance from Denison in 1977, and moved to the Bay Area that summer to do a performance workshop with Margaret Jenkins.
Diane co-founded the Choreographers Performance Alliance in 1979. CPA is the Bay Area's longest running "open mike" format dance series, allowing choreographers to show work in an informal setting and to receive moderated feedback from the audience. CPA won an Izzie for Services to the Field in 1987.
Diane performed with many well known Bay Area choreographers including Nancy Bryan, Karen Attix, Ellen Bromberg, Nina Haft, Randee Paufve, and Nancy Karp. Diane performed with Nancy Karp for over 34 years, creating many roles and teaching company class.
She has toured nationally and internationally, including performances at the former Cunningham Studio in New York, and at the Joyce Soho. Diane received an MA from Mills College where she also taught and choreographed. She teaches at Danspace in Oakland and at the Shawl Anderson Dance Center in Berkeley. She is currently working on a series of solos that blend dance and theater.
